Jacksonville Real Estate & Community Information

The city of Jacksonville is located in and also the county seat of Onslow County and is home to over 67,000 residents. Jacksonville is the 14th largest city in the state of North Carolina and was ranked by Forbes magazine as the 5th fastest-growing smallest city in the US in 2014.  The population drastically increased over the past 80 years, from only 783 in 1930 to 70,145 in 2010.  This, along with the large military presence, may attribute to Jacksonville being the youngest city in America at an average age of 22.8 years.

Jacksonville was founded in 1757 as Onslow Courthouse and incorporated as a town and renamed as Jacksonville in 1842 after President Andrew Jackson.  In 1941, Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base was built and caused a population explosion of about 800 people.  The young Marine families and retirees fueled further growth and the base continues to draw new residents.
